Help / Making A Site
« on: September 02, 2008, 06:58:22 AM »
So my cousin wants to make a site about his wine collection, since he has been collecting for a long time. He wants it so that he could publish the wine details and give his commentary/opinion on each one. He wants people to be able to comment on whatever wine they wanted, so I'm wondering what kind of a site or program should be used. He also wants to be able to sell some of his wine to people who are interested in it so they cna place an order through him, so an e-commerce site. The thing is that I don't know how to make an ecommerce section and security is a big concern since people's financial information would be processed through it.

So can anyone suggest how to go about doing this? I know we have to have a host but he plans on running a server in his home. We also need a domain but for the early stages, I guess we could just go with a free one. What kind of a site building tool should I use to incorporate all these things I mentioned? Thanks.

I went to this electronic convention that was hosted by nVidia today. It's in the city of San Jose, also where my college is. There are a lot of things going on including booths from all the major computer companies (EVGA, Palit, MSI, Tagan, CyberPower...), an area to play games and learn about new technology, and LAN gaming area which is going to have a 36 hour long gaming session, and a place for custom rigs.

Some of the custom machines were amazing to see how it was designed. I'll post pictures soon. I'm going there again tomorrow since it's the last day to check out more stuff.

I got a lot of free tech goodies from the booths but nothing too big. I almost won a Tagan 750W Power Supply but it slipped out my hand since there was plastic wrapping on it. The guy threw it into the crowd and like 30 people jumped for it, it was crazy.

Me with the girls from the above pics.

Girls from another company.

I met Jamie & Adam from Mythbusters. I shook their hands and got their autographs.

A really hot girl behind the screen that I couldn't get a good shot of. Oh btw, they are cooling the CPU with Liquid Nitrogen and the temperature is -32C.

Help / Windowed Mode
« on: August 17, 2008, 01:55:28 PM »
Is there a way to play BF1942 in windowed mode?

I know with BF2 and 2142, you can edit your target path to
Quote
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 0
which is what I've done for those games.

If that "0" was a "1," it would be in regular fullscreen.

I've looked on Google, but many people are saying that it's not possible with 1942. Does anyone have a solution?

Microsoft to Unveil DirectX 11 Features Soon

Xbitlabs reported that unlike DirectX 9, the DirectX 10 will not have a more than four year lifespan as Microsoft Corp. plans to introduce features of DirectX 11 application programming interface at the forthcoming XNA gamefest conference that takes place next week in Seattle, Washington. Moreover, ATI, graphics product group of AMD, and Nvidia Corp. also plan to discuss certain Direct3D 11 features at upcoming conferences.

Microsoft is going to host four sessions dedicated to Direct3D 11 application programming interface (API), according to agenda of XNA conference. The world’s largest software maker plans to introduce the Direct3D 11 graphics pipeline, unveil details about D3D 11 Tessellation capability, new type of shaders called Compute Shader as well as high level shader language 5.0.

According to Microsoft, Direct3D 11 extends and enhances Direct3D 10 with new hardware and API calls. For example, Direct3D 11 introduces the Compute Shader as a way to access this computational capability without so many constraints. It opens the door to operations on more general data-structures than just arrays, and to new classes of algorithms as well. Key features of compute shader include: communication of data between threads, and a rich set of primitives for random access and streaming I/O operations. These features enable faster and simpler implementation s of techniques already in use, such as imaging and post-processing effects, and also open up new techniques that become feasible on Direct3D 11–class hardware.

It is interesting to note that Microsoft did not reveal whether DirectX 11 will support processing of physics on GPUs, though, chief of software developers relations at AMD’s graphics product group implied last year that more generalized approach to programming of Microsoft’s next-gen API will indeed open the doors to physics processing on graphics chips.

ATI and Nvidia will also host sessions dedicated to DirectX 11 hardware tessellation at XNA and Siggraph, which indicates that the feature is going to be one of the key capabilities of forthcoming API and DX11-class graphics processing units. It is interesting to note that ATI’s session about tessellation at XNA will cover both “current architectures and Direct3D 11”, which may mean that even the tessellation engine inside ATI Radeon HD 4800-series is not DX11-compatible.

The DirectX 11 should be compatible with both Windows Vista and Windows 7 since Microsoft officially said that it has no plans to change driver model in its next-generation operating system. Therefore, it is logical to expect the arrival of DirectX 11 both ahead or after the launch of Windows 7, as the releases of the two products do not seem to be aligned.

It is unknown when ATI and Nvidia plan to launch hardware compatible with DirectX 11 application programming interface.

BF 2 / BF2 Key
« on: July 20, 2008, 04:44:39 PM »
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post something like this here...

Does anyone have a BF2 CD key off of BF2 that they purchased legally that would be willing to trade with me or give to me? The one I'm using is banned from a couple of my favorite low ping servers so it sucks. My key is NOT GUID banned so I'm not scamming you or anything like that. Thanks.
